In this project we were given 6-8 poorly designed posters supporting anything from rock-climbing club to barn fires, to music festivals. We had to pick two of these posters and redesign them. I picked to redesign bowling club and Squirrel Fest. The hardest thing for my bowling one was to come up with a clever tagline. I like them when they’re funny and also puny. After a while of thinking/research I came up with, Have time to spare? Get it Spare, like in bowling.  From the start I got this idea that I could make a thing of pins and then have them shatter in glass to make this cool like effect. That’s what I did as my illustration and I actually put a lot of effort to make it happen. I had done this effect, ish, on a project in the past so I know I could do it, but I couldn’t remember how to do it. It took me a solid 1-2 hrs. to get it to work for me, but I was happy with the results so all is good. Then the type became a struggle because I had a lot I had to put in there and because of my image not all that much space. I still think I have some tangents especially between the top point of one of the pins and also the games in the last sentience. I’m slightly ok with the color background I choice, because I don’t use purple all too often and I think that it worked out ok. The other poster I made was for Squirrel Fest, and I’ll have fun in this one. One of the styles I really love and try to put in my work sometimes is a vintage style. I could do this with a music festival poster! So off the bat I thought guitar, a trippy illustration of a guitar. The first mistake I made on this was making my guitar an acoustic as appose to electric. My idea behind this choice was that an acoustic guitar is more alternative than electric. Buy my poster design would have looked better with an electric guitar. In the end I basically ended up scrapping my whole design and layout and went with the design I have now.   This I believe was more effective. It looks better and also gets the point across. I tried the guitar with a few different colors but ended up keeping the more yellow tone, but mellowed it out some.

After this we had to put the design into a different format, in the bowling one I made it into a phone ad in both the horizontal and vertical format. Then, I tried a web banner for my Squirrel Fest poster, this was difficult but I managed to get something out. I did the web banner in a different format, though it was the same as my original poster design. My first poster design I kind of tried to play with transparency and the idea of 60-70's era in music where it was a bit trippy. In the end my teacher said that it was a bit to much so I switched to my acustic guitar I have here.
