Our third project, keeping with the theme of taking poorly designed posters and make them look more aesthetically pleasing therefore causing them to become more grabbing to the eye and therefore making them more effective. This project we had to take the poster promoting the jazz combo concert and change it and we also had to use an illustration on the poster. At first I thought again to make an abstracted figure playing a double base as my illustration. I would use only straight lines in order to create my character therefore making it become more abstracted by nature. I struggled with this because I didn’t know the line between too abstracted and not enough. In the end I winded up going not abstract. Even though I kept with my straight lines the lines didn’t bring as much abstractness to my guy and I think that’s because I over did it. I made too many change in direction to where it didn’t really make it very abstract. Though I do like it more than if I went with a direct representation of a player, so I still had more of a non-representational figure, it just didn’t go as far as I wanted it to go. I also struggled with finding text to fill the space. This came due to the lack of information we were given so I had to add text that would give you more information to what they wanted you to see, this was challenging because I knew nothing about jazz. In the end this project was a pretty nice failure where I was not happy with my outcome in the slightest.

Then after this we had to make a video spot in order to further support our poster. For me this video was pretty fun. I already worked with after effects so I knew the program so making the video wasn’t as hard as it could be. I was also limited to 15 seconds so I didn’t run into copyright issues. My song was All that Jazz from the movie/musical Chicago, it was easy to come up with the music because my tagline for the poster was. “come and enjoy All that Jazz.” In the end I was actually pretty ok with this video. It got the point across and didn’t look as bad as I could have so yeah.
